Trinh’s Jook

Trinh’s Jook is a congee cafe specializing in Chinese style congee, a savory rice porridge that can be paired with infinite toppings. Our restaurant is named after my Vietnamese and Chinese mother, Trinh, and the phrase jook means congee in Cantonese.  I aimed to blend both Chinese and Vietnamese culture while emulating the nostalgic feeling of waking up to the smell of jook on the stove on a cold winter morning.  Our intention is to use food to bring people together, sharing our love, comfort, and creating community through quality, soul food, reflecting my Mom’s ability to express her love through food.

Our mark combines the Chinese character with the imagery of a steaming bowl. The playful, hand drawn icon is stylized and simplified to appeal to broader audience that doesn’t know Chinese characters. The custom typography and ligatures are also inspired by Chinese characters.
