When’s the last time you sent letter mail? The Snail Mail Project was created to encourage slower, more meaningful communication in today’s fast-paced digital age through sending letter mail.
Launched in the MassArt Library, the project invited participants to take part in a simple act: writing and sending a postcard. By providing postcards, postage, and handling the mailing process, I hoped people would feel encouraged to start sending mail to their loved ones, as a part of this project and on their own.

By providing postcards, postage, and handling the mailing process, I hoped people would feel encouraged to start sending mail to their loved ones, as a part of this project and on their own.
Participants could choose a snail postcard or to decorate their own, using the provided markers and ink stamps that emulate the analog stamping involved in the mailing process.
They were instructed to:
1. Pick & decorate a postcard
2. Write a message & address
3. Drop it in the mailbox
4. Fill out the survey
5. Wait for delivery!
It was incredible to see the beautiful designs that people created, from intricate illustrations to stamped masterpieces. I loved how people were able to personalize the experience and send their own pieces of art in the mail.
This project was truly a passion project of mine. Seeing the ways people interacted with eachother and shared love was truly so special.
Unlike my other projects, the participants were the curators of the
project and dictated its outcome. As a designer, I like to have control over the design and how it is perceived in the world, but this was an important lesson in letting go and waiting to see what happens.
